چکیده

PurposeTo compare objective and subjective parameters in image quality radiation dose of two MDCTs (helical 64 detector CT vs. axial 256 CT) paediatric lung CT.MethodsRadiation were compared between non-enhanced from a helical 64-slice multidetector (MDCT 1) 256-slice scanner 2) with wide-cone acquisition using deep learning reconstruction. In 23 size-matched studies (age 2–18 years) each scanner, the exposure, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise (CNR), sharpness delineation small airways assessed. Subjective was rated by 6 radiologists.ResultsWhile MDCT 2 provided higher SNR CNR, not significantly different both scanners. Radiation exposure lower (CTDIvol 0.26 ± 0.14 mGy, effective 0.23 0.11 mSv) than 1 0.96 0.52 1.13 0.58 mSv), p < 0.001. Despite for scout images, relative scout-scan-ratio increased 2.64 1.42 % to 6.60 5.03 (p = 0.001).ConclusionsBy latest technology can be reduced 0.1?0.3 mSv children without compromising quality. Scout increasingly accounts substantial portions total scan needs optimized. should performed on state-of-the-art scanners size-adapted protocols iterative

Low-dose computed tomography lung cancer screening.

Lung cancers, primarily caused by tobacco smoking, are the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States and around the world. Screening of select high-risk patients using low-dose helical computed tomography (LD-CT) has been shown to reduce lung cancer mortality by 20% compared with chest radiography. However, because there are risks to LD-CT lung cancer screening, it should be performed...

Ultra-low-dose sequential computed tomography for quantitative lung aeration assessment—a translational study

BACKGROUND Quantitative lung computed tomography (CT) provides fundamental information about lung aeration in critically ill patients. We tested a scanning protocol combining reduced number of CT slices and tube current, comparing quantitative analysis and radiation exposure to conventional CT. METHODS In pigs, CT scans were performed during breath hold in a model of lung injury with three di...

Automated detection of lung nodules in low-dose computed tomography

A computer-aided detection (CAD) system for the identification of pulmonary nodules in low-dose multi-detector computed-tomography (CT) images has been developed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 Italian project. One of the main goals of this project is to build a distributed database of lung CT scans in order to enable automated image analysis through a data and cpu GRID infrastructure. The basi...

Screening for lung cancer with low-dose spiral computed tomography.

Studies suggest that screening with spiral computed tomography can detect lung cancers at a smaller size and earlier stage than chest radiography can. To evaluate low-radiation-dose spiral computed tomography and sputum cytology in screening for lung cancer, we enrolled 1,520 individuals aged 50 yr or older who had smoked 20 pack-years or more in a prospective cohort study. One year after basel...

Screening for lung cancer using low dose computed tomography.

Screening for lung cancer with low dose computed tomography can reduce mortality from the disease by 20% in high risk smokers. This review covers the state of the art knowledge on several aspects of implementing a screening program. The most important are to identify people who are at high enough risk to warrant screening and the appropriate management of lung nodules found at screening. An acc...
